Alt-rocker/hip hop artist, YUNGBLUD, released his explosive new song “Lemonade” today – featuring rapper Denzel Curry who gave the song a keen verse. The new track can be found on the Madden NFL ‘21 soundtrack, along with 18 other never-before-heard songs, via Interscope Records.
“Lemonade” opens with an auto-tuned, screaming YUNGBLUD, where he gradually gets more into a rapper verse, “They just squeeze my brain, gettin’ off on pain/Drippin’ down your face like I’m lemonade/Head knocked in for days, gettin’ off on pain/Drippin’ down your face like I’m lemonade.” The percussion is hard and abrupt, giving the track a dark swirl of deep man-made noises, guitars, slick beats, and staccato raps by both artists as they give the song their all. The rap verses wrap around the chorus which incorporates the mayhem happening around the world.
“‘Lemonade’ is about the immense pressure society and circumstance is placing on my brain right now. It’s about wanting to explode. It’s about the injustice my generation is fighting against every day. We know where we stand, we know what we want, and we are going to get it. Recruiting Curry was a no-brainer. Denzel was the perfect fit because he is a true activist. His lyrics inspire me daily and we’re fighting for the same things: equality and inclusion across the fuckin planet. The song came out so quickly and easily and I can’t wait to split up the pit once the pandemic is over,” YUNGBLUD explains.
“Lemonade” arrives on the heels of YUNGBLUD’s latest single, “Strawberry Lipstick”, released late last month. The song was an exciting offer of his highly anticipated sophomore album due out later this year. The creative, multi-instrumentalist is very busy with the preparation of both releasing new music from the new album, and with his graphic novel, The Twisted Tales of the Ritalin Club Volume 2: Weird Times at Quarry Banks University, the sequel to his 2019 print debut, which – at the same time – gave readers a peek into his dark sense of humor, his support and stance on mental health, and steady willpower to welcome his craziest tendencies.
YUNGBLUD’s unwavering originality is showing its worst lately. He achieved platinum status with his 2019 single “I Think I’m OKAY,” a wild collab with hip-hop/alternative artist Machine Gun Kelly, and Blink 182’s Travis Barker. YUNGBLUD is MTV’s Global PUSH Artist for this month, and he has also been nominated for the 2020 VMA’s PUSH Best New Artist.
